Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
I provide individual therapy for adolescents and adults, with a particular focus on high-functioning individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, overwhelm, life transitions, relationship concerns, or the lasting effects of difficult experiences.
Therapy with me is collaborative, practical, and tailored to you. We’ll begin by understanding what brought you to therapy and what you hope to change. From there, we’ll identify patterns, build practical coping strategies, and work toward meaningful, lasting change.
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin understanding what you’re experiencing. We’ll discuss your current concerns, relevant history, goals for therapy, and what you hope to get out of treatment. Evidence-based assessment tools may also be used to establish a baseline and help track your progress.
You don’t need to be in crisis or have everything figured out before starting therapy. If something in your life isn’t working the way you’d like, therapy can provide a space to understand what’s happening, develop new skills, and create meaningful change.
Your Therapy Experience
I use an eclectic, evidence-based approach grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), while incorporating a trauma-informed perspective.
Therapy isn’t simply about talking through your problems. We’ll work together to understand what’s keeping you stuck, develop practical skills, and create meaningful changes in how you respond to life’s challenges.
It can, but you don’t have to revisit everything you’ve experienced. We’ll first focus on understanding your current concerns and building coping skills. When appropriate, we may explore past experiences and patterns that continue to affect your thoughts, emotions, relationships, or behaviors.
Yes. I use evidence-based screening and outcome measures when appropriate to better understand symptoms and track progress. These tools provide an objective way to evaluate whether therapy is helping and whether adjustments may be beneficial.
Most clients begin with weekly or bi-weekly sessions, although frequency is individualized based on your needs, goals, and progress. As things improve, sessions may become less frequent.
There is no one-size-fits-all timeline. Some clients benefit from focused, short-term therapy, while others prefer longer-term support. We’ll regularly review your progress and treatment goals to make sure therapy remains purposeful and aligned with what you need.
Practical Questions
Yes. I provide telehealth therapy exclusively, allowing you to attend sessions from the privacy and comfort of your own space. Sessions are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.
I participate with select insurance plans, including Aetna, Cigna, Carelon Behavioral Health, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, subject to your specific plan and benefits.
Insurance coverage varies by plan, so I encourage you to verify your behavioral health benefits, deductible, copay, and coinsurance before beginning treatment.
I use Headway to help manage insurance billing and administrative processes. Once your insurance benefits are verified and your plan is confirmed as in-network, Headway handles claims submission and insurance billing on my behalf.
This allows me to spend more of our time focused on your care rather than administrative paperwork. You’ll be able to view your expected copay, coinsurance, or deductible information through the Headway platform, when available.
While I use Headway to assist with billing, your insurance plan ultimately determines your coverage and out-of-pocket responsibility. I recommend confirming your behavioral health benefits with your insurance provider before beginning therapy.
Your privacy is important to me. Information shared during therapy is kept confidential except in circumstances where disclosure is permitted or required by law. You’ll receive information about privacy, confidentiality, and its legal limitations before beginning treatment.
Telehealth regulations generally depend on where you are physically located at the time of your session. Please contact me before scheduling a session while traveling outside Michigan so I can determine whether services can be provided.
I provide outpatient therapy and am not an emergency or crisis service. If your needs require a higher level of care, I can help identify appropriate resources or referrals.
